Bankura Chapter - Sankolpo’s determination in Jangalmahal

1st step in Jangalmahal (Javi village)

In January 2024, we marked our debut in Bankura with a compassionate initiative, focusing specifically on the vulnerable Shabar Somproday community. This inaugural outreach, deeply encouraged and facilitated by Madhusudhan Mahato in Javi village, aimed to provide crucial support to approximately 50 Shabar families. Madhusudan Mahato has a deep and intimate understanding of the Jangalmahal region.

Recognizing the particular hardships faced by the Shabar Somproday, Sankolpo’s intervention centered on distributing essential items: warm blankets to combat the winter chill, mosquito nets for protection against vector-borne diseases, and vital ration kits to address immediate food security needs. Madhusudhan Mahato’s invaluable local knowledge and advocacy were pivotal in ensuring that our efforts were directed effectively towards these families, who often face socio-economic challenges and marginalization. This targeted aid not only provided immediate relief but also represented our commitment to uplift and empower the Shabar community, setting a compassionate precedent for future endeavors in the region.

Celebrating Freedom with dignity in Bardanga Village

This Independence Day on 15th August, 2024, the air in Bardanga village, Bankura, was filled not just with patriotic fervour, but also with heartfelt gratitude. In a moving tribute to the spirit of freedom and community, we proudly distributed new clothes and essential ration kits to 17 deserving families.

The joy on the faces of the beneficiaries, as they received these thoughtful provisions, was a testament to the impact of this initiative. For many, a new set of clothes for the festive occasion is a rare luxury, and the addition of vital ration supplies brings much-needed relief to their daily struggles.

We believe that true independence includes freedom from want and the right to live with dignity. Our initiative in Bardanga village on this significant day was a small step towards achieving that vision. We extend our deepest thanks to our supporters and volunteers whose unwavering commitment makes such endeavors possible.

Karate Camp in Jangalmahal - Unleash Your Power

We all know that deeply disturbing event occurred at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata in August 2024. A woman postgraduate trainee doctor was found raped and murdered on the hospital premises. This horrific incident sparked widespread outrage, protests by doctors nationwide, and ultimately led to a CBI investigation.

This tragic event, like many others, underscores the critical needs of self-defence. In an unpredictable world, personal safety can no longer be taken for granted. Learning self-defence is not just about physical techniques; it’s about:

  • Empowerment and Confidence
  • Situational Awareness
  • Mental and Emotional Resilience
  • Physical Fitness
  • Discipline and Focus

Responding to this vital need, Jangalmahal Atmorokkha Sommonoy is stepping up to provide free karate classes across the boys and girls who expressed willingness to learn the same. This is a commendable initiative, particularly in areas like Jangalmahal, where access to such training might be limited.

Recognizing powerful display of community solidarity and empowerment, we joined hands with Jangalmahal Atmorokkha Sommonoy to provide vital support in the Jangalmahal region by providing karate dresses to the participants on January 2025. It removes a potential financial barrier for many aspiring students, ensuring that those eager to learn self-defense can do so without hindrance. It also fosters a sense of belonging and uniformity among the trainees, enhancing their commitment and morale.

Together, Jangalmahal Atmorokkha Sommonoy and Sankolpo are making a tangible difference, empowering individuals in the Jangalmahal region with the skills and confidence to protect themselves, fostering a safer and more resilient community in the wake of incidents that highlight the pressing need for self-defence.

Ekmutho in Jangalmahal

Following the distribution of Karate dress, the spirit of community continued to flourish with the “Ekmutho” initiative. Under this compassionate program, lunch was provided to almost 225 local residents in the same day when we have provided the Karate dress, addressing immediate nutritional needs and fostering a sense of togetherness.
This joint effort by Sankolpo and Jangalmahal Atmorokkha Sommonoy exemplifies a holistic approach to community development – empowering individuals through self-defense training while simultaneously caring for their basic needs. Such initiatives are vital in building resilient, self-reliant communities in the Jangalmahal region.
Since the initiation time, karate camp is running every Sunday with approx. 120 trainees and Sankalpo, in a robust collaboration with Jangalmahal Atmorokkha Sommonoy, is now providing heavy breakfast to all their self-defense trainees every Sunday. This vital initiative ensures that young boys and girls engaged in rigorous karate training receive the essential nourishment they need to thrive, both physically and mentally.
This ongoing commitment is made possible through the incredible generosity of all well-wishers who financially support our various humanitarian endeavors.
