"Ekmutho" : Nourishing Two Generations for a Healthier Tomorrow
Ekmutho
In the vibrant, yet often challenging, landscape of our communities in Hindmotor, Konnogor, Uttarpara and across West Bengal, Hindmotor Sankolpo is taking a holistic approach to combating malnutrition with its impactful initiative, “Ekmutho”. This drive focuses on providing healthy and nutritious lunches not just to children, but critically, also to their mothers, recognizing the undeniable link between maternal and child health.
A malnourished mother often gives birth to an underweight child, perpetuating a vicious cycle of poor health and developmental challenges across generations. For lactating mothers, proper nutrition is vital for producing adequate breast milk, which is the primary source of nourishment for infants.
While the direct impact of malnutrition on children is visibly devastating – leading to stunting, wasting, weakened immunity, and impaired cognitive development – the health of a child is inextricably linked to the health of their mother.
The "Ekmutho" initiative addresses this critical need by:
- Targeting the Mother-Child Unit: Unlike programs that focus solely on children, “Ekmutho” consciously includes mothers, particularly pregnant and lactating women, in its beneficiary group. This ensures that the foundation of a child’s health – maternal nutrition – is strengthened, breaking the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition.
- Providing Balanced, Wholesome Lunches: Our dedicated team, guided by nutrition experts, prepares daily lunches that are rich in essential macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). The meals often incorporate locally available, affordable, and culturally appropriate ingredients like rice, dal, seasonal vegetables, eggs and chicken ensuring maximum nutritional impact.
- Promoting Health and Hygiene: Each meal distribution is coupled with informal yet crucial sessions on health, hygiene, and best practices for infant and young child feeding (IYCF). Mothers receive guidance on breastfeeding, complementary feeding, sanitation, and identifying signs of malnutrition in their children. This educational component empowers them to make informed choices for their family’s long-term well-being.
- Fostering Community Support: “Ekmutho” operates by engaging deeply with local communities, identifying the most vulnerable families through surveys and collaboration with community health workers. This approach builds trust and ensures that the aid reaches those who need it most, fostering a sense of shared responsibility for health outcomes.
- Ensuring Consistency and Dignity: The meals are delivered with consistency, providing a reliable source of nourishment that families can depend on. We strive to create a dignified and respectful environment for all beneficiaries, understanding that providing food is an act of compassion, not just charity.

Distributing blankets by The Care Hospital in association with us

In association with The Care Hospital, Uttarpara, we organized a heartwarming initiative on 13th December 2025, distributing blankets to approximately 55-60 families in the brick works area of Uttarpara mainly in Shiv, KMB and Ring rose. The event was a testament to our commitment to serving the community, particularly the underprivileged.
The beneficiaries, comprising daily wage earners and their families, were overjoyed to receive the blankets, which will provide them with much-needed warmth during the chilly winter months. The distribution ceremony was accompanied by a nutritious lunch, consisting of Nutrela veg and rice along with egg curry, which was served to over 100 people in aligned to our “Ekmutho” initiative.
The Care Hospital, Uttarpara, played a vital role in supporting this initiative, underscoring their commitment to giving back to the community. The hospital’s contribution was instrumental in making this event a success, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to them.
